Puerto Rico Blog #2

The Puerto Rico trip has definitely surpassed my initial expectations thus far. Arriving on the island, I thought most people would only speak Spanish, as the other Latin American countries I have visited, but there is a huge majority of Puerto Ricans that speak both English and Spanish, which genuinely surprised me. Our group was also shocked to notice how distinctive the social classes are within the island, when we visited Plaza las Americas. This experience truly showcased how people live their lives so differently on the island.

Aside from these initial observations, I have also noticed that many Puerto Ricans are extremely passionate and advocate for a multitude of causes, such as environmental efforts,  education about the island’s rich history, or disaster relief. Noticing this passion within people is truly inspiring, and it makes me happy I have had the opportunity to meet and support such generous people.
